Settler’s Rest Cemetery

Some of the first settlers in Sedgwick are buried in the cemetery which was originally called Billing’s Cemetery because it was on Billings land and many of that family are buried there. The land for the cemetery was donated by Parker B. Billings and his wife Sarah E. Billings in 1904.1

The earliest stone is said to be that of John Billings in 1803 but the stones of John and his wife Hannah, which are noted in a circa 1910 map of the cemetery done by Martha Maria Currier Simmons2, are no longer to be found.

Trees have grown up around the cemetery but they somehow add to its sense of peacefulness.
