Jan 1 Comes in with snow storm Snowed light 3 PM then rainy with wind SE  Azor Dodge and family had one of my teams and Frank and Geo Harding the other to go to Bluehill to attend the funeral of Curtis Dodges wife  got back at 5 PM  Capt Gower took a ride in his sleigh the first sleigh out for the winter around here

Jany 5 Very windy from the NW and cold  Annual meeting of the Chapel Circle this evening at the AC Dodges

Heavy rains through the night

21 Comes in foggy and warm My cellar filled with water last night so that it ran over   the drain got stoped  Charles Babson came back from Ellsworth today with Chief, horse

Fred gone to Bluehill with Capt Silas Hardy  WD Gower arrived home at noon  Googinses team put up here

3 Cloudy and some snow in the afternoon  The horses from Sedgwick Brooklin Sargentville Deer Isle and one from Penobscot were on the ice trotting about 60 horses 150 people  Fred Sargent horse Chief and John Harnesses horse Station  were the two best horses on the ice  Amos Allen smashed his sleigh but done well while trotting

5 Comes in pleasant  The town meeting for choice of Officers was holden today  John C Eaton Mark Elwell and Groves D Eaton Selectmen  RS Cole Moderator and Treasurer  PE __ Collector (Money Raises)

$800 for schools  $1000 for Labor on highway

quite large holes in the ice in the Reach

at 3 PM the Revenue Cutter came up through the Reach and into the Steam Boat wharf and cleared the ice   Anchored in the Cove and layed through the night

29 Moderate all night and foggy with rain

In the morning the Cuttersteamed up through the Reach and back twice then came into the Cove and broke the ice around the Schr Robert Dority  at 11 AM came alongside the wharf and all who wished went on board and over the boat.  The Capt came on shore and came up to the store of WG Sargent & Son and spent half an hour or more and then was taken back to the steamer well satisfied with his reception.  Eggs milk and apples were carried on board.  We as a community appreciate his services very much  The Reach is open above for the Boat

At 6 PM the Cutter took the Robert Dority in tow and towed her to the Head of the Reach

The name of the Capt is Fengar

March 30 Comes in pleasant the Cutter in the head of the Reach moving and came down through

Just heard that Capt Sam Wilson of Sedgwick was dead  he died in New York with the pneumonia  he is just in from Mexico

At 3 PM the steamer Richmond came up through the Reach for the first time and stoped at Sargentville Wharf

March 31 Comes in with thick snow with wind from the East  PM NW and pleasant  the Steamer City of Richmond came to her wharf at 6:30 PM and stoped through the night  She had a very large freight on board

Capt Wilsons remains came on the boat

April 1st 1888

The funeral of Capt Samuel Wilson today at the church

The people of Sargentville mostly went to the Steam Boat Wharf   the Steamer City of Richmond came in also Str Bluehill  Sabath School had a picnic in the sail loft  in the evening had football game also fireworks  big time for Sargentville

Chs Haskell took all to sail who wished to go, Capt Gower in his yacht Otis Cooper in his yacht  HW Sargent in his went on a sail  fine breeze

The day passed off very pleasantly
