Saturday Jan 1, 1870 Pleasant  day Wind north  We are going to have our speaking shool this evening  We are going up to the shool house to fix up the stage this afternoon.

Stormy snowing wind NE  10 AM commenced raining rained all day and blowed very heavy. Will Sargent was over here this afternoon
Monday Jan 3 Blowing very heavy to day from the SW the Schr Elizabeth dragged last night and the Schr Dispatch went ashore. Father and Uncle Boles went down to lodge to night
Tuesday Jan 4 Carried Mrs Smith over to Brooksville this morning to take the stage.  She is going to Salem  Mary J Billings died Dec 31, 1869. Pleasant to day wind from the westward
Wednesday Jan 5 Very pleasant to day wind from the northward  Mr Smith has been to work in the woods to day for father Bennie & I went in with him. Went down Brooklin to night
Thursday Jan 6 Wind s west blowing quite fresh. Mr Smith and Bennie and I went into the woods this forenoon  I went to shool this afternoon.  Mother and father went over to Uncle Daniels yesterday to dinner

Pleasant to day wind from the NE and E. Father, Uncle Boles, Rodolph, Francis, Bennie and myself went on board the Elizabeth and pumped her out.

Wednesday Jan 12 Commenced snowing this morning snowed until about noon  than the wind hauled to the eastward and commenced to rain rained very hard about dark and the wind had got round SW
Thursday Jan 13 Stormy this morning wind NE stormed very hard this afternoon (snow) Bennie went to the mail he did not wait for the Deer Isle mail and father had to get Old Bell and carry it down when it arrived.

Pleasant all this day at 1 PM started from home for Warren R. I. to join the Sch WH Sargent got hauled up through the wind  At 7 PM changed boats at Rockland WG-WH and wife ___ and about sixty others from Brooklin and Sedgwick left on the boat
Wednesday March 23 At 7 AM arrived in Boston stoped in Boston till 4 PM then took the train for Warren  Arrived in Warren at 7 PM called to Capt Ramers Shop and got some clam chowder then went on board the Schr stayed all night on board
Thursday March 24 All this day strong breeze from the west got the sails on board and commenced getting ready to start
Friday March 25 All this day all hands employed on board took the boat down to the shipyard to get her repaired
Saturday March 26 At 8 AM went to Providence to get some rigging in place of what had been stolen while laying at this place  Could not get all mounted and had to send to Boston for it  but it didn’t come this evening train  all ready to leave as soon as I get my rigging and get it done
Sunday March 27 The wind this AM from the east and looks like a storm  Capt Romer has been on board and think I shall go to church with him to day—I wish I was at home with my family to go with them to church  At 10:30 AM went to church with Capt Romer & family the Rev Mr ___ preached text Romans 8-32  took dinner with Capt Romer PM went to church  this PM heavy Easterly storm- 8 AM homesick
Monday March 28 All this day wind from the south and rainy  my rigging did not come this day  Capt Stanley came down from Providence with Capt Romer stayed all night
Tuesday March 29 This day wind from the North and overcast cannot go out for want of rigging
Wednesday March 30 Wind from NE at 8 AM took the cars for Providence  At 1 PM took the cars at Providence for Warren with my rigging arrived and have all the rigging ready  To start in the morning
Thursday March 31 At 6 AM hauled out of the dock got underway and proceeded down River  at 10 AM past Point Judith  wind east hauled to up the sound went through Fishers Island Sound.

At 2 AM came to anchor above Thrags Point  At 8 AM took pilot and went through the Gate  at 11 came to anchor at Red Hook went on shore took an order to load at Port Johnson for Boston freight $185 went on board got underway and went to the wharf hauled in the dock  in the evening blowing heavy from the east
Saturday April 2 The first of this day heavy gale of wind and rain from the SE at 2 PM finished loading 221 tons coal  all hands getting at work cleared up ready to haul out
Sunday April 3 The first of this day strong breeze from the NE with rain  I should like to be at home this day with my family  I feel somewhat homesick but I am in hopes if nothing happens to be home soon  Latter part heavy gale with rain wind from the NE

Last night I towed down from Newark N J and anchored at Red Hook   day am going to Wehawken to load coal for Boston $170 per ton

has been calm all day and quite warm  have been homesick all day and wish I was at home with my family

Sept 14 1871 Laying at Hard Island bound to Boston with coal from Wehawken $170 freight  came through the Gate last evening  the wind is NE and looks like rain   I am in hopes to have a fair wind and fair weather soon and have a good chance around the Cape I spoke Bolles this morning  he was bound to New York with stone
